FAQs

Have questions about all this? We have answers! If you have a question not answered here, do reach out and ask at our contact page.

Can you really do these services all online?

Yes!

We had our doubts too. To make sure we could provide the high level of personalized service we wanted, we performed dozens of test projects.

We found that in some ways working remotely was even better than working in person. Inviting a stranger into your space can be nerve wracking. Sharing photos and videos is easier than hosting. We can (and do!) review your submissions over and over and are able to ask as many follow up questions as needed. Working asynchronously is a big plus because you can work on your project at any time. The last thing many of us want these days is another video conference appointment!

We think working this way is a lot of fun and has a lot of advantages. We think you will too.

Do I need to clean up for pictures during my Mess Investigation?

Please don’t.

We get a ton of useful information from seeing your unfiltered photos and videos. They help us spot trouble areas, make good diagnoses of root causes, and provide you with the best solutions. A tidied space doesn’t convey the same amount of information.

We know sharing can feel vulnerable. Your photos and videos are private and won’t be shared outside our team. We’re here to help, not judge, so don’t worry about that!

How much does this cost?

A Mess Investigation is $150.

Each project is entirely personal and designed to address your particular needs. Costs will vary widely. We structure project proposals like a roadmap. You can choose the sections where you need guidance and support and work independently where you feel confident. Spread the cost by spreading your project over time. If you need some flexibility, just let us know.

All agreed project fees are due prior to the commencement of work and there is a strict no refund policy.

I need to do a major declutter. Can The House Shuffle help me with that?

While winnowing possessions is often an element of our projects, large scale decluttering isn’t our focus.

If you’re struggling to figure out a decluttering strategy, that is a topic we can cover during a Mess Investigation. We do know a lot about the topic and can help you figure out your best next step, whether that’s working with a local professional organizer, making a basic plan or providing resource recommendations.

Why no before and afters?

Frankly, before and after photos of organization projects can be underwhelming.

What looks and feels perfect in person can feel sparse in photos. Since our client work is entirely remote, we’re not there to style and stage spaces to their best advantage.

We also feel strongly that our clients’ spaces are their own to share. One of the ways we respect their privacy is by not asking to share before and after photos. We want our clients to feel confident that when they work with us, they can share their spaces fully, without risk of judgement.
